Project Name: PAMM Bromeliad
Scope of Work: Engineering, Design- Build, Installation
Material Type: Stainless Steel Structure- Aluminum Skin
Completion Date: 2024
Designer: Arquitectonica
Client: Orange Barrel Media

Summary: The Bromeliad installation is located at the PAMM Art museum in Miami. The bromeliad (A cascading flower like design intent) is 100 feet high, complex geometry and is made up of 30 stainless steel modular sections that appear seamless. The duration of the project was compressed to nine months from initial concept design to completed installation. CTEK was responsible for taking the initial design concept and providing material solutions to the design team, we rationalized the complex geometry for manufacturing feasibility; then created an engineering solution that met and exceeded the design teams demanding design criteria. The bar was set very high due to the location on the museum property. It was also situated at the hub of the Miami city district. CTEK developed a stainless-steel space frame modular design built and pre-assembled at its factory that could be erected on the site efficiently.

The exterior skin was made from aluminum expanded metal mesh screen. The design called for a seamless design which required jumbo sized formed monolithic panels seem butted together to achieve the desired effect. The technical challenging part was how to form an elliptical cone from these jumbo sized 20’ flat panels. We built a special forming machine for the project to achieve this special requirement. CTEK successfully formed monolithic 20’ long aluminum sheets to an elliptical conical shape, a significant technological achievement. These panels were then but seem together to form the Bromeliad tier. Concealed rivets were used to hold the panels to the Stainless-steel space frame. All fasteners were concealed and non-visible. The 5 tiers were fabricated at factory, shipped to the site and installed in 7 weeks. The end result was the outstanding piece of work that exceeded expectations. The museum and the design team very pleased with the result. Every detail was conceived and engineered by CTEK to the highest level. CTEK takes pride in its work and its technological achievements on this project.
